Alibaba Security team collaborated with Indiana University to discover a new macOS/iOS security threat: sending malformed X.509 certificates via 'banana emails' can cause system crashes. The research identified 18 new vulnerabilities and 12 known vulnerabilities in six mainstream cryptographic libraries, which can exhaust system resources. The team developed the X.509DoSTool detection tool and proposed mitigation solutions. This work has been nominated for the USENIX Security'25 conference.
